BIOGRAFIE

Moya Brennan is de artiestennaam die Máire Ní Bhraonáin (uitgesproken als Moya Nie Vrennan) in 2002, na jaren te moeten aankijken tegen spellingsfouten en verkeerde uitspraken, heeft aangenomen. Moya kreeg via haar vader?s pub in Donegal de Keltische muziek met de paplepel ingegoten, en zo ook haar zussen, Enya (ja, ja), en Bridin. Zoals ze vertelt in haar autobiografie, is het voornamelijk die periode in haar leven die bepalend is geweest voor de typische sfeer die karakteristiek is voor haar werk, en dat van haar zussen. En uiteraard ook die van Clannad, de groep die ze samen met nog wat nonkels en nichten (voor de duidelijkheid: in betekenis 2,2 volgens Van Dale) in familieverband heeft opgericht. In tegenstelling tot Enya en Bridin, die uitsluitend voor een solo-carrière hebben gekozen, is Moya nog altijd een vast groepslid van Clannad.

BEZETTING

Moya doet beroep op een backing band bestaande uit Paul Byrne (percussie), Eamonn Galldubh (uilleann pipes, whistles, flute), Sinéad Madden (viool en zang), Sam Jackson (keyboards), Fionán Debarra (gitaar en zang), Cormac Debarra (harp en zang), en Yoshi Izumi (gitaar, basgitaar en zang). Enkelen onder hen zijn de drijvende kracht achter de groep Galldubh.
